International study on Artemia : 59. Artemia tibetiana: preliminary characterization of a new Artemia species found in Tibet (People's Republic of China) OMA
Abatzopoulos, T.J.; Zhang, B.; Sorgeloos, P..
In this study, we report on the existence of a new bisexual Artemia species, found in the high plateaus of Tibet (P.R. China). Different disciplines have been used to characterize this new population: biometrics of cysts and nauplii, morphometry of adults, cytogenetics, allozyme and DNA analyses and cross-breeding/fertility tests with known Artemia species. The results obtained justify that Artemia from Tibet is a new species with the proposed name Artemia tibetiana.

Barriopsis iraniana and Phaeobotryon cupressi: two new species of the Botryosphaeriaceae from trees in Iran Naturalis
Abdollahzadeh, J.; Mohammadi Goltapeh, E.; Javadi, A.; Shams-bakhsh, M.; Zare, R.; Phillips:, A.J.L..
Species in the Botryosphaeriaceae are well known as pathogens and saprobes of woody hosts, but little is known about the species that occur in Iran. In a recent survey of this family in Iran two fungi with diplodia-like anamorphs were isolated from various tree hosts. These two fungi were fully characterised in terms of morphology of the anamorphs in culture, and sequences of the ITS1/ITS2 regions of the ribosomal DNA operon and partial sequences of the translation elongation factor 1-α. Phylogenetic analyses placed them within a clade consisting of Barriopsis and Phaeobotryon species, but they were clearly distinct from known species in these genera. Therefore, they are described here as two new species, namely Barriopsis iraniana on Citrus, Mangifera and...

Notes on the genus Caiophora (Loasoideae, Loasaceae) in Chile and neighbouring countries Darwiniana
Ackermann,Markus; Weigend,Maximilian.
This is the first revision for the representatives of the genus Caiophora (Loasaceae) in Chile. The genus is widely distributed in the Andes from Argentina/Chile in the South to Central Ecuador in the North, and comprises approximately 60 species. In Chile only five species are present, Caiophora chuquitensis, C. cirsiifolia, C. coronata, C. deserticola sp. nov. and C. rosulata. Caiophora rosulata is here subdivided into two subspecies: western Andean C. rosulata subsp. rosulata (present in northern Chile and southern Peru), and eastern Andean C. rosulata subsp. taraxacoides, stat. and comb. nov. Furthermore C. superba syn. nov. and C. macrocarpa syn. nov. are placed into synonymy under C. chuquitensis, and C. rahmeri syn. nov. is synonymized to C....

Nouvelles données sur le genre Bragasellus (Crustacea: Isopoda: Asellidae) Naturalis
Afonso, Odette; Henry, Jean-Paul; Magniez, Guy.
From now on, the genus Bragasellus Henry & Magniez, 1968 includes 2 oculated and 17 stygobiotic species. As a natural and monophyletic taxonomic unit, we consider it a good genus. Its original area corresponds to the north-west quarter of the Iberian Peninsula. Secondarily, this area has extended eastward, using mainly the alluvial channels of hydrographic systems (Ríos Douro + Ebro and tributaries), finally reaching the underground waters of several Mediterranean rivers. This active expansion is exclusively due to the migration of two stygobiotic sibling species: B. lagari Henry & Magniez, 1973 towards the high basin of the Río Tajo, then downstream to the basins of the Ríos Jucar and Turia (Prov. Valencia); and B. lagarioides n. sp., downstream...

Review of Paraphotina (Mantodea: Photinaidae) Rev. Bras. Zool.
Agudelo,Antonio A.; Rafael,José A..
ABSTRACT The number of studies on Neotropical mantises has been growing in recent years, and the systematics of Mantodea is now a dynamic field with noteworthy contributions. Several taxonomic revisions have been published recently. The taxonomy of Paraphotina Giglio-Tos, 1915 is reviewed as part of current studies on systematics of Neotropical Mantodea. Currently, Paraphotina contains four species from South America: P. caatingaensis (Menezes & Bravo, 2013) comb. nov., P. insolita (Rehn, 1941), P. occidentalis Lombardo, 1998 and P. reticulata (Saussure, 1871). Paraphotina venezuelana Beier, 1963 is a new junior synonym of P. insolita . Keys for the Paraphotina species are proposed. The distribution of Paraphotina species is apparently correlates with...

Jenynsia luxata, a new species from Northwestern Argentina, with additional observations of J. maculataRegan and phylogeny of the genus (Cyprinodontiformes: Anablepidae) Neotropical Ichthyology
Aguilera,Gastón; Mirande,Juan Marcos; Calviño,Pablo A.; Lobo,Luis Fernando.
Jenynsia luxata, a new species from northwestern Argentina, is described. This species is diagnosable from all other Jenynsia by the medial processes of left and right pelvic bones relatively reduced and separated from each other. The new species resembles J. multidentata, but it is further distinguished from this species by the absence of a swelling between the urogenital opening and the anterior base of the anal fin in females and details of coloration. Phylogenetic analyses, both under implied and equal weighting, recover the subgenera Plesiojenynsia and Jenynsia as monophyletic units. New information on previously missing characters of Jenynsia maculata is added. These data and phylogenetic characters coded for the new species herein described...

REVALUATION OF LATRODECTUS THORACICUS NICOLET, 1849 (ARANEAE: THERIDIIDAE): BIOLOGICAL AND PHYLOGENETIC ANTECEDENTS Gayana
Aguilera,Milenko A; D'Elía,Guillermo; Casanueva,María E.
The number and identity of the species of black widow spiders of the genus Latrodectus that inhabit Chile remain unclear. Here we present results of taxonomic work based on morphologic and molecular characters of a large series of specimens collected throughout Chile, which aimed to assess Chilean Latrodectus diversity. Results show that all studied populations belong to a single species, for which the correct name is Latrodectus thoracicus Nicolet 1849. Therefore, we remove this taxon from the synonymy of L. mactans (Fabricius, 1775). In addition, we suggest that L. mirabilis (Holmberg, 1876) may be junior synonym of L. thoracicus. We recognize two species of black widows for continental Chile, L. thoracicus andi. variegatus Nicolet, 1849. We provided an...

Revision of agents of black-grain eumycetoma in the order Pleosporales Naturalis
Ahmed, S.A.; Sande, W.W.J. van de; Stevens, D.A.; Fahal, A.; Diepeningen, A.D. van; Menken, S.B.J.; Hoog, G.S. de.
Eumycetoma is a chronic fungal infection characterised by large subcutaneous masses and the presence of sinuses discharging coloured grains. The causative agents of black-grain eumycetoma mostly belong to the orders Sordariales and Pleosporales. The aim of the present study was to clarify the phylogeny and taxonomy of pleosporalean agents, viz. Madurella grisea, Medicopsis romeroi (syn.: Pyrenochaeta romeroi), Nigrograna mackinnonii (syn. Pyrenochaeta mackinnonii), Leptosphaeria senegalensis, L. tompkinsii, and Pseudochaetosphaeronema larense. A phylogenetic analysis based on five loci was performed: the Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS), large (LSU) and small (SSU) subunit ribosomal RNA, the second largest RNA polymerase subunit (RPB2), and translation...
